Maurice Thorpe - 4th Dan Renshi

Maurice has been involved in Judo longer than most, some 40 years, and in that time has accrued a vast wealth of knowledge.
In his younger years he was a very competent fighter, this has formed a true 'old school' practitioner of Judo. Maurice has spent time learning both Japanese language and culture to complement his knowledge of the art and as such represents a generation of Judo that is now becoming hard to find. We count ourselves lucky to have him.

Martin Lacey - 1st Dan

Martin found Judo later in life than most Judoka but has made up for lost time with diligent study in the technical aspects of the art, he is quite able to demonstrate technique that, while not suitable for the competition arena, helped make Judo what it is today. Martin enjoys deconstructing a technique and looking at the component parts in order to better understand the end result, this makes Martin a excellent instructor.

Ross Winter - 1st Dan

Ross began his study of Judo as a child under Renshi Thorpe and now instructs along side him. Ross has a more competitive martial arts background but is careful to employ a good technical emphasis while instructing.

We are luck enough to have a variety of excellent instructors that visit us from time to time, their styles and backgrounds vary greatly but they all help to progress the ability of all the students.
